Cancellation of the 250th Anniversary of the French & Indian War Event

It is with great disappointment that the Fort Frederick State Park Event has been cancelled.
The Grand Encampment Commitee worked for over two years with Maryland Parks and the Friends of Fort Frederick to make the event a reality.
Unfortunatelly, the goals of public history education, commemoration, tourism and volunteerism were lost here.
In its simplest form the Grand Encampment was to be volunteers helping a historic site create a commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the French & Indian War.
To find a site unprepared by not properly budgeting for a special one time special event is regrettable.
To come forward after a year and one half with a contract that puts the burden of liability, public health and safety upon volunteers is unacceptable.
Living historians, Marylanders and the vistitors from out of state and internationally deserve better.
