A MESSAGE FROM THE BRITISH COUNCIL
Welcome to THE Grand Encampment 5, the 250th Commemoration of The Surrender of the French at Fort Pontchartrain, Stony Creek Metro Park, Shelby Township, Michigan.
The British Command, Stony Creek Metro Parks, GEC 5 Planning Committee and many volunteers have combined their talents to create a weekend of 250th commemoration adventure and large scale tacticals for the historical participants as well as much magic for the public.
Our British encampment will be set up simulating a large military style tented encampment. The British camp will be close to the water for landing of troops and situated for a campaign atmosphere. The French and Sutler area will be arranged to simulate the artisans, merchants, habitants and military which surrounded Fort Pontchartrain and its out reaching areas.
The action at GE 5 will encompass 2 tacticals daily, something that GE participants have grown to expect with a true feeling of the “fog of war.” We will draw from true battles of the war as much as possible using the great terrain the site has to offer. Additionally, we will be able to take part in a Grand ceremony commemorating the 250th anniversary of the surrender of Fort Pontchartrain. Additionally, there will be evening sutler hours so reenactors can be drenched in the atmosphere of an evening shopping experience at old colonial Pontchartrain.
All parts of the army will enjoy this event. There will be lots of usage of artillery, boats, and horse. If you are Grenadiers, Lights, Rangers, Hat men, Provincial or Militia, you can count on this being the premiere event to attend for 2010! We want to use the lake, woods, fields and fortified positions in your tactical experiences.
Please remember that your attendance is what makes this type of event Grand and allows us to make this event one of your best experiences in your reenacting career. Your Most Humble and Obedient Servant,
Brent Kemmer
